What can Chiropractic care offer you?

At Sports Performance+Spine, we offer a variety of services to help reach your goals!

The mission of SP+S is to restore health, improve function, and increase performance. We do this by bridging the gap between rehabilitation to performance. Re-developing proper movement patterns with chiropractic treatment and proper functional exercise helps take patients and athletes to the next level in the rehab, performance and lifestyle. Our approach provides our patients with reduced pain, an active approach to rehabilitation, and provides assistance with performance or wellness care to maintain a healthy, durable, and pain-free lifestyle.

Not only do we utilize the most advanced spinal adjustment protocols, we also focus on soft tissue modalities. In order for our athletes and patients to perform optimally, we have been trained in Graston and Active Release Techniques. Both of these are innovative soft tissue techniques that break up adhesions from overuse injuries such as muscle pulls, tendonitis, or even a sprained ankle. We also use a specialized form of joint support taping, called Kinesio tape, designed to aid recovery by supporting the muscles, tendons and joints in their natural movements without prohibiting, but in fact enhancing, their movement.

Chiropractic is a natural, drug free healthcare that focuses on correcting the causes of physical problems rather than addressing just the symptoms. As a chiropractor, I focus on the health of the spine, joints, muscles, ligaments and nerves. I work to restore the health of the entire body, using a personalized approach to overall wellness. At SP+S we use a combination of chiropractic adjustments, physical therapy, exercise, nutritional advice, correct posture, proper sleep, adequate hydration and stress management. If we can make improvements in each of these areas there is no reason not to be healthy.

No insurance coverage?

For patients who have little or no chiropractic insurance coverage, flexible payment programs can be arranged. If you have no insurance or do not have chiropractic benefits there is still a way for you to receive the care you need. Many patients pay directly for care, as they discover chiropractic to be extremely cost-effective and affordable.

Family plans

Our focus at SP+S is to actively help you and your family receive any care that you need. We do offer several family plans that may be shared within your family to ensure that everybody gets the care they deserve. spine

Laser Therapy

LightForce Therapy Lasers_logo_black and green

Laser Therapy is an FDA cleared modality that reduces inflammation and ultimately results in pain reduction. Laser Therapy is effective in treating acute pain, chronic conditions and post-op pain. Laser therapy treatment is safe, painless and fast. Deep Tissue Laser Therapy treatments are administered in 5 to 10 minutes. Typically patients see results after 3 to 5 treatment sessions. Deep Tissue Laser Therapy utilizes your body’s own healing powers by stimulating celluar activity. Despite fast treatment times, laser therapy treatments initiate a healing process that continues to actively reduce inflammation for up 24 hours after treatment. LiteCure Medical is the preferred brand of professional athletic trainers and is a clinically proven modality. LiteCure Medical is the leader in scientific research and education. Recovery Pump

Use of Recovery Pump’s sequential compression therapy 1-2 hours per day will produce results similar to the benefits of 12-48 hours of rest. Recovery Pump delivers and aggressive but very natural alternative to passive recovery for athletes. This system simulates localized “active recovery” (such as walking) in a passive manner since the therapy is conducted at rest.

This therapy increases venous return, rapidly accelerating the body’s reabsorption of the elements causing soreness and fatigue in muscle. It effectively removes metabolic waste faster than any traditional mode of recovery or rest alone. For more information, visit

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM)

IASTM is a variation of traditional cross fiber (transverse) friction massage. It is a form of treatment used to “break up” or “soften” scar tissue, thus allowing for a return of normal function in the area being treated. The beveled edge of the instrument combined with its concave/convex shapes to mold the instrument to various contours of the body. This design allows for ease of treatment, maximum tissue penetration in a gentle manner, and minimal stress to the chiropractor’s hands. Much like a tuning fork, this instrument resonates in the clinician’s hands allowing the doctor to isolate adhesions and restrictions and treat them very precisely. Since the metal surface of the instruments do not compress like the fat pads of the finger, deeper restrictions can be accessed and treated. When explaining the properties of these instruments, we often use the analogy of a stethoscope. Just like a stethoscope amplifies what the human ear can hear, so do the instruments increase significantly what the human hands can feel.

rocktape Rock Tape

Kinesio® Taping method involves utilizing a special elastic-like tape over and around muscles and/or joints in order to assist and give support to affected tissues as well as to prevent over-contraction. While most people think of tape as a restrictor of motion, this type is designed to support and facilitate normal motion. With this method the patient can still be a full participant in the activities which he or she desires, just with a bit of aid. Just ask any Olympic, professional, collegiate or amateur athletes of any sport how helpful it can be! Dr. Zimmerman is fully trained in this cutting edge method.

Electrical Stimulation

Electrical Stimulation

Electrical stimulation is used to reduce pain, reduce muscle spasms and promote healing. Electrodes are placed on the body in various places to target specific muscle fibers. This treatment helps to enhance the effects of our other treatments. We typically combine electric stimulation with either cryotherapy or thermotherapy to obtain the fastest results. Patients leave the therapy bay relaxed, with less muscle tension, and ready for their chiropractic adjustment.

Electrical Stimulation

Cryotherapy simply means the use of cold as a therapy. Applying cold to the area reduces the amount of fluid flowing into the tissues and also slows the release of chemicals that cause pain and inflammation. Cold also decreases the activity of cells in order to reduce the amount of swelling at the injury site which means that it slows down the inflammation reaction. In the acute stage of injury it gives relief to the pain and reduces swelling. A cold pack or ice massage is usually applied after the treatment or used as home treatment.

Thermotherapy is the use of heat to treat symptoms of acute or chronic pain, especially those related to muscle tension or spasm. Thermotherapy widens blood vessels and increases blood flow to the skin. It relaxes superficial muscles, decreases muscle spasm and reduces stiffness of joints. The hot packs are applied either before or after your chiropractic adjustment.

Ultrasound uses high-energy sound waves to decrease pain and increase circulation to help painful joints and muscles. It has been shown to cause increases in tissue relaxation, local blood flow, and scar tissue breakdown.

Trigger Point Therapy

Trigger point therapy (TPT) is a bodywork technique that involves the applying of pressure to tender muscle tissue in order to relieve pain and dysfunction in other parts of the body. Sometimes massage and trigger point therapy are performed together. The purpose of TPT is to eliminate pain and to re-educate the muscles into pain-free habits. After several treatments, the swelling and stiffness of neuromuscular pain is reduced, range of motion is increased, tension is relieved, and circulation, flexibility and coordination are improved.

Each table at SP+S is equipped with a traction mechanism. Traction used in conjunction with chiropractic care loosens (unlocks) joints and gives passive motion exercise and therapy to the joints. This brings increased blood flow and nutrition that feeds the discs between the vertebrae. This helps to return flexibility, elasticity, and preservation to that all important disc space which protects the opening for the spinal nerve. This also slows the degenerative process known as arthritis that we all seem to take on as we grow older. Traction will not cure arthritis/degeneration, but will slow the process.

Massage Therapy Massage therapy

Massage therapy is offered at SP+S. We offer sports massage, deep tissue, therapeutic, pre-natal and Swedish massage.

Reaction time, speed, power, strength, balance, agility and endurance are all controlled by your nervous system. If there is an interference in your nervous system you won’t be able to perform at your best. SP+S’s focus is to allow our patients’ the ability to complete all of their fitness goals with no limitations; no matter if they are beginning a workout program, on a sports team, or are competitive athletes.

When our bodies become over-stressed, we increase the chances of suffering injury. That stress can be a sudden physical trauma (fall, accident) or even long term micro-trauma that builds up over time (repetitive motion injuries, poor posture).

No matter what type of injury we have, it typically results in:

  • Decreased normal range of motion of the affected area
  • Muscle spasm/tension/some muscles become tight while others become deactivated or weakened.
  • Nerve interference causing pain and further muscle guarding
  • Inflammation to begin the body’s natural healing process

Our goal is to quickly restore the motion in the affected joint using a combination of physical therapy and chiropractic adjustments.

Although we don’t offer a fitness program within our office, we encourage all of our patients to visit one of our affiliates listed to the right. Our affiliates allow us to communicate with trainers and staff so that our patients have the best chance of reaching their health and fitness goals.

Gaining motion results in:

  • Increased pain free range of motion
  • Muscles begin to relax (remember muscles are controlled by the nerves)
  • Decreased nerve interference = decreased pain
  • Decreased inflammation and decreased chance of becoming chronically inflamed

**Not restoring the motion of an injured area can lead to a vicious cycle of chronic inflammation, pain, degeneration, and further loss of normal range of motion.
